Nice Ferry Port Information

Nice port is situated in the heart of Nice centre close to the historic section of the city.

Short Description of Nice:

Wander at random through the narrow streets of the old town and then stroll along the famous "Promenade" before entering into the heart of the city with its rich architectural and cultural heritage and its parks and gardens. Nice has a total of 19 museums and galleries (Museum Of Modern And Contemporary Art, Marc Chagall Museum, Archeological Museum, Matisse Museum, Cimiez, Franciscan Museum, Russian Cathedral, Fine Arts Museum, Museum Of Asian Art...), 32 classified historical monuments and 300 ha of parks and gardens, woodland and green areas in addition to 150 ornamental lakes and fountains.

Hotel NEGRESCO Promenade des Anglais. In its style reminscent of the Belle Epoque. It is classified as a historical monument.

La PROMENADE des ANGLAIS The most popular image of Nice the world over. The Promenade, which gracefully follows the majestic curve of the Baie des Anges was originally only a pathway 2 metres wide. Built in 1860 by the English Reverend Lewis Way, it was officially "opened" in 1931.

La PLACE MASSENA In its new look, the statues of Plensa have joined the red coloured facades, its flower-gardens and ornamental fountains. This is also a starting-point, accessible by the tramway, to explore the different shopping streets of the city centre.

La COLLINE du CHATEAU The views from the pleasant gardens on the castle hill over the Baie des Anges on one side and the port on the other are most impressive. There is an arificial waterfall and the remains of an cathedral dating back to the 11th century. As for the "castle" itself, oncly a few remains of its walls can still be seen.

The OLD PORT The port of Nice started its commercial activities in 1749, but today has found its real vocation as a cruise port. Ferries leave from here for the island of Corsica and luxury vessels set off for Mediterranean cruises. The "place Ile de Beauté" is a remarkable example of neo-classic architecture in the buildings surrounding the church. The war memorial is a colossal building erected in memory of the 4000 nicois soldiers who lost their lives for France during the World Wars.

Le CAP de NICE This road which passes through a residential area offers magnificent views over Nice and the Baie des Anges.

PLACE GARIBALDI Dating from the 18th century, this elegant square was the first extension of the old town toawrds the new. Renovated on several occasions, the building facades are now ochre-coloured with green shutters. In the centre of the roundabout - once a gathering place for festivities - stand a statute of Giuseppe Garibaldi, born in Nice in 1807.
