Vars les Claux is the largest, most modern and highest of the 3 villages of the Vars resort. This resort, with Risoul, makes up the biggest ski slope area of the Southern Alps: the La Forêt Blanche ski slopes. The resort is specialized in speed-record trials. To date, it holds several world records. This aside, the slopes are mainly destined for medium-level skiers. To attract off-piste skiers, the Chabrières peaks give way to numerous gullies. Similar to the North American Green Circle, and are almost always groomed, or on so shallow a slope as not to need it  23 slopes Red ski slopes are Intermediate. Steeper, or narrower than a blue slope, these are usually groomed, unless the narrowness of the trail prohibits it  23 slopes Black ski slopes are Difficult. Steep, may or may not be groomed, or may be groomed for mogul. It is worth noting that 'Black' can be a very wide classification, ranging from a slope marginally more difficult than a 'Red' to an icy mogulfield  7 slopes
