Set deep in the Tarentaise valley, Moûtiers is your picture-perfect gateway to Les Trois Vallées ski area. But its attractions merit a visit at any time of year. Try canoeing on the River Isère, which runs through the centre of town. Set off down a hiking trail. Visit nearby villages and alpine lakes.

Or simply soak up the atmosphere in the narrow streets of the historic town centre. Don’t forget to sample the local Savoyarde gastronomic delights, such as farçon and the excellent wines.

The closest major airport to Moutiers is Grenoble-Isère Airport. The quickest and cheapest transport between the Grenoble airport and Moutiers is by train. During ski season there are flights from the UK and Amsterdam (BA, Flybe, Transavia) into Chambery-Savoie Airport.

Moûtiers can trace its history back some 2000 years. Ask nicely and the tourist office will give you a guided tour of the narrow streets and old monuments, to help bring to life the town’s rich heritage.

 

Saint Pierre Cathedral:

Neoclassic architecture mixed with sculptures from the 13th to 18th centuries.

Church of St Pierre, built between the 11th to 17th centuries, it features some nice examples of Lombardy-Roman and Gothic religious art.
