From the Paris Flea Market (weekly), to the George Pompidou Center (1972), to the Eiffel Tower (1889) icon of France, to historic Louis XIV Versailles (1682) to mention just a few, Paris and its environ area has enough to keep your visitor curiosity on a high and your legs busy for quite a few days, not to mention weeks.

Even on rainy days you can visit the Louvre, the Sacre-Coeur, Notre-Dame and so many other indoor tourist attractions.

Here’s a mouth-watering smattering of some tourist attractions:

Marche aux Puces de St Ouen

Probably the greatest antique market in the world. 2000 stalls of furniture, books, art glass ware, jewelry, porcelain, records, bronzes, weapons…. you name it. Antiques-hunters and collectors will go nuts coming across jewelry and furniture, posters and books, old dolls and toys, as well as scientific instruments, glassware and porcelain…

Père-Lachaise Cemetery

Located in the NE of Paris, it’s the most visited cemetery in the world, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors a year to the grave sites of artists and writers. It is a veritable roll-call of the great and good who have illuminated all facets of French and Parisian life over the past 200 years or so. A suggestion is to get a birds eyeview, ‘big picture of Paris with BigBus first and then they’ll drop you bus you between various sites. Coupled with that the Paris Pass will not only save you entrance money but will let you skip the lines.

But you don’t have to limit yourself to Paris … to the contrary, France is is dotted with tourist attractions.

La Rochelle Old City Harbor

On the Atlantic, it was occupied by the Romans who developed salt production along the coast as well as wine production. Historic drama with the Knights Templar stationed their main fleet there and acted as intermediaries in trade between England and the Mediterranean. A conspiracy theory originating with Holy Blood, Holy Grail has it that in 1307 the Templars used a fleet of ships laden with knights and treasures to escape just prior to the issue of a warrant for the arrest of the Order.

Strasbourg, Grand Ile, Cathedral de Notre-Dame

Flowing through the city is the river Ill in the middle of which lies the Grande Ile (Big Island). this is the historic centre of Strasbourg. It’s a concentration of breathtaking monuments: The cathedral, the four ancient churches and the Palais Rohan (former residence of the prince-bishops)

The Cathedral is one of the most beautiful gothic masterpieces in Europe and well worth a visit. Bringing us up-to-date, remember that Strasbourg is the seat of European Parlement, that it borders on Germany and if you’re there in December its Christmas Market is world-renowned.
